AMMA Leadership Resigns Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations
The Association for Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has been rocked by a mass resignation of its leadership, including President Mohanlal, in response to sexual misconduct allegations against several members.
This decision follows the release of the Hema Committee report, which detailed shocking instances of discrimination, exploitation, and sexual harassment within the Malayalam film industry. The report’s revelations led to intense public scrutiny of AMMA’s handling of the allegations.
Prominent figures like Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala, Baburaj, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others were part of the resigned executive committee.
The Hema Committee’s report has exposed a pervasive culture of abuse within the industry, implicating senior actors and filmmakers. Actor Siddique resigned as General Secretary after facing sexual misconduct allegations.
While major figures like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Fahadh Faasil have remained silent, the report’s findings have sparked widespread calls for reform and accountability within the Malayalam film industry.
AMMA has announced plans to hold a general body meeting within two months to elect a new leadership. The organization expressed hope for a new beginning and a commitment to addressing the serious issues exposed by the report.
